Frequently Asked Questions
What is Convention of States?
Who is eligible to apply?
This internship is designed for students and young professionals generally between the ages of 18-25. Exceptions for those slightly younger/older will be considered on a case by case basis. Please email us to discuss your situation.
What does the hybrid remote / in-person model look like?
One of the highlights of the internship experience is the opportunity to participate in one of the strongest local grassroots movements in the nation! Within the state you reside or attend school, you’ll have opportunities throughout the year to meet in-person with other patriots and leaders within COS, attend and help with special events, and go to the Capitol to build relationships with your state legislators. (In-person opportunities vary depending on your location and schedule availability.)
However, much of the grassroots work is remote/online, and our leadership training component is completely remote. Each week, you’ll participate in an online discussion call with your fellow interns from across the country. Before each call, you’ll have a reading/video assignment that you can complete when it works in your schedule.
Should I apply if I have no political experience?
Yes! No experience is required; we will train you with everything you need to know. Come with a willingness to learn, a commitment to do your best, and you will thrive!
Typically, more than half of our interns come in with no political experience, and many have no political aspirations, going into fields like education, ministry, or business. Everyone shares a desire to be an engaged citizen.
What is the time commitment for the internship?
Though it may vary a bit week to week, you should plan on 5-10 hours per week between the leadership development training and hands-on grassroots work. The discussion call will be a fixed two-hour time every week, you will have a few meetings to schedule, and the rest of the study and work is up to you to fit in whenever it’s most convenient in your week!
